Recycling, cost savings, why use PET?

Recycling, cost savings, why use PET?

At a time when the planet is a central concern in our consumption habits, PET is becoming essential. As part of our commitment to sustainability , we've chosen to offer recycled PET in addition to our glass ranges. Today, we'll explain why and its importance for your accommodations.

So, what is PET?

Lightweight, durable, safe, and with a lower carbon footprint than other materials, PET is the most recyclable plastic in the world. Among plastics, PET is one of the few that is almost infinitely recyclable .

Because it can be reused and transformed to create new packaging, PET production is no longer as high as it once was, further reducing emissions. Today, approximately 58% of PET bottles are recycled in Europe, making it the most recycled plastic packaging material.

Why do we use recycled PET?

Recycled PET (rPET) performs as well as virgin PET and requires significantly less energy to produce . CO2 emissions are also reduced by 50% or even less.
PET packaging is 95% lighter than glass.
Lighter packaging requires less fuel for transport and reduces CO2 emissions. In fact, PET bottles are becoming lighter and are 40% lighter than they were in 2000.

How is it made?

Recycled PET, or rPET, is obtained by recycling plastic bottles and transforming them into yarn and then into fabric . It is also referred to as recycled polyester.
PET packaging generates up to 75% less CO2 than glass and aluminum.
After collection, the bottles are sorted by material, compressed to reduce their shipping volume, and sold to collectors. The bottles are then processed. PET can be recycled in several ways, including melting and molecular decomposition.

How is PET recycled? Ideally, PET packaging should be transformed into PET packaging, which allows for a more sustainable future.

How can you identify recycled PET?

All plastic packaging must bear the Möbius circle, a triangular logo made up of 3 arrows , which indicates that the plastic is recyclable.

This logo is always accompanied by a number indicating the type of plastic the container is made of. Number 1 corresponds to PET plastic.
